By correcting the alignment and mobility of your spine and extremities we can strengthen your brain, nervous system, and muscles. We do this by using adjustments (push or pull specific areas of the spine or extremities) and muscle therapy. The health of the brain and nervous system are also influenced by your diet, mental stress, prolonged sitting, lack of exercise or too much exercise, infections, and environmental toxins. Functional Nutrition is synonymous with “Functional Medicine” in parts of the United States from where it was first developed. In functional nutrition, we are interested in looking for the root or source of your health problems (instead of just masking or treating symptoms) so you get well and stay well without unnecessary drugs or surgery. For example, say someone has heartburn/GERD. Instead of giving a person drugs to suppress heartburn/GERD (PPIs) we look for the underlying infection that is causing the heartburn/GERD and fix that. Or perhaps someone has joint pain in many parts of the body. Instead of giving a person a drug to take away the pain (i.e. Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory), we might investigate if the person has a food intolerance that is creating inflammation or swelling in the body that leads to the joint pain.
